Giving a lecture to the students and faculty.
July 15, Shenzhen-Professor E Weinan, the Academician of CAS, Dean of Yuanpei College at Peking University came to visit SUSTC. Participants listened to a speech delivered by Professor E Weinan on the topic of Big Data Industry and Data Science, at the 30th SUSTC Lecture series. The lecture was moderated by SUSTC Vice President Professor Tao Tang. Before the speech, SUSTC President Professor Shiyi Chen had a meeting with the Academician.
He has made contributions to homogenization theory, theoretical models of turbulence, stochastic partial differential equations, electronic structure analysis, multiscale methods, computational fluid dynamics, and weak KAM theory. In the study of rare events, he and collaborators have developed the string method and transition path theory. In multiscale modeling, he and collaborators have developed the heterogeneous multiscale methods (HMM). He has also made significant contributions to the mathematical understanding of the microscopic foundation to the macroscopic theories for solids.
He has published more than 200 research papers in the SCI. He received Feng Kang Prize in Scientific Computing in 1999.He was the recipient of ICIAM Collatz Prize at the 5th International Congress of Industrial & Applied Math for his work on industrial and applied mathematics, the Ralph E. Kleinman Prize in 2009, and the Theodore von Kármán Prize in 2014.He was elected as a fellow of Institute of Physics in 2005, a fellow of SIAM in 2009, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011. He is now the Chief scientist of the National Key Basic Research Program of China.
With years of personal experience in big data study, he shared his apperception in big data research and practice with the faculty and students.
During the question and answer period, hands filled the air.
