A rational homology 3-sphere by gluing 8 hyperbolic polyhedra
F. Lobell constructed the first example of a closed orientable hyperbolic 3-manifold in 1931, by gluing 8 copies of a hyperbolic polyhedron. His method was generalized to construct a family of closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds, now called Lobell manifolds. By studying their homology groups, we found a rational homology 3-sphere in this family, with some interesting properties. In this talk I will introduce our methods and results.
